Really enjoyed this and want to come back to the audiobook when I can give it my full attention.

Such an informative book on Henrietta Lacks’ life and her family. Very well written and researched, and really interesting to read the account of all the twists and turns Rebecca Skloot experienced while researching for the book. The book does talk about the scientific impact of the cells and what they’ve been used for, but it primarily focuses on the human aspect of the story, of Henrietta and the rest of the Lacks’ family and their community. This is very good because the human aspect is little heard-of in stories of scientific developments, but I do wish there was a little more on the actual scientific uses and applications of HeLa cells throughout history and today. Still, an amazing and very informative read.

This book is a mish-mosh of memoir, biography, science and history that reads like a novel, and is almost unbelievable enough to be one. It's filled with phenomenal stories and oral histories from family members and medical researchers, and completely transported me to another world every time I opened it. If you're interested in science, history, ethics, or race / gender relations, this book is a must-read.

Amazingly well-written and readable non-fiction.

Not normally the type of book I read, but it turned out to be very interesting

I usually don't love non-fiction... it's just so... not-fictiony. Don't judge me; I love novels. Anyway, I usually get bored and skim over a LOT in non-fiction books. This book was interesting almost cover to cover (I did skim a bit when it got deep in o the science-- I know it's an important part of the story; I just can't bring myself to care that many paragraphs worth). The story itself is interesting and well-told. I wasn't inherently interested in the topic or the story, but the book is a fast, bright read and very interesting. Worth it!

Maybe I’ll out of the loop but I hadn’t heard of her. Very informative and human portrayal.
