Really amazing story. The author is kind of annoying because she tries to make it about her own journey finding the story. But, it's well written and very informative!
couldn't put this down! a heart wrenching story filled with tragedy and hope. rebecca skloot writes carefully and emotionally to explain the science of cells while humanizing the lacks family, sharing their true story, and gaining their trust. leaves open more questions of patient consent and tissue research.

So good. I don’t know much about bio stuff so I wasn’t familiar with HeLa cells before this but this book was so compelling. I really liked how the author spent so much time and care to know the family and tell their story. She also really balanced the nuances of “this research is important and has really extreme benefits” and “this woman and her family have been exploited” so well and really draws to attention that like informed consent is important and people whose bodies have been used to change medical research forever, shouldn’t have children suffering from ailments because they can’t afford healthcare. Overall so interesting to read about both the medical and personal history. Highly recommend to everyone

This book was sad, uplifting, educational, it was just amazing. I listened on audiobook so I also got to hear an interview with the author at the end, but I borrowed the ebook from Libby so I could see the photos. This book will stay with me for a while, and it was just as much the story of Henrietta's daughter as it was about her. I have a biology degree so I was familiar with HeLa but didn't know the story behind the cell line until I heard about this book. Glad I finally read it.
