as depraved, disturbing, and uncomfortable as this trilogy of novels can be, they do suspend a moment in time utterly and exhaustively; exceptional character work, (including one of my favorite Faulkner characters in Linda) and expression of place. if Faulkner's goal is to capture time in a written word, I'd say he's succeeded greatly.

Just finished Book 3, The Mansion, completely the trilogy. The Hamlet was curious. The Town was terrible (wandering narrative, soft story), The Mansion was OK...but has a really really really terrific ending. I loved the ending. Hoping this wasn't Faulkners best work.
