Another Hoover masterpiece! I love this being in Will's voice!

Not as captivating as the first in this series. Dragged a little bit. Very predictable but not as intensely engaging as some of her other books.

This book is just too infuriating, predictable and overly dramatic. The Will I find lovable from Slammed turned to be an immature, stupid guy who acts and thinks like a freaking whiny 12 year old! Every damn page of this book have either Will and Layken making out/hugging/being cheesy or arguing/crying/being annoying. If only I could reach into the pages and slice them into miserable pieces, life would be much easier.

THINGS THAT MADE ME WANT TO MURDER:

1. Characters. Every damn character in this book is fucking immature. Even the characters I loved from Slammed, Eddie and Gavin, seemed more like cardboard cut-out that appears on and off in the story. I can't even care less about their problems. And holy shit! Will and Layken? Way to act like a bunch of kids. And I thought this book will be full of character development. The only character I might enjoy here is Kiersten.

2. Make-up words. Butterflying? Carving pumpkins? There are times they're actually okay but redundancy makes me want to tear my hair out! Seriously, they're not kids anymore!

3. Drama. Talk about unrealistic. The whole evil ex-girlfriend might have played out well if Ms. Hoover put some depth into it, like make Vaughn have personality or something, but she didn't. What I got is Layken slamming the door on Will's face and giving him the silent treatment for weeks without even an explanation, Will acting like a kid and not a sensible 22 year old, Vaughn who is nothing but an evil catalyst for drama and the ex-bestfriend who serves no other purpose but for more drama. And the other drama
Spoilerthe car accident after Layken finally forgave Will
...seriously?! REALLY?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!! To what purpose is it necessary?!

THE DRAMA IS SO OVERBOARD THAT IT BECOMES COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC, MANIPULATIVE AND POINTLESS. In fact, Ms. Hoover's other books (particularly you, Hopeless) experiences the same thing. Don't get me wrong, Ms. Hoover knows a lot of drama, but she doesn't seemed to know when to use it and to what degree. The drama piled up and up, drama over drama. I suggest she works on that.

4. Plot. I actually expect more of Will and Layken's struggle of raising their brothers and dealing with their early parenthood, you know, BUT what I got is a whole book about how Will and Layken fight against all odds to have sex! THAT'S THE WHOLE FREAKING BOOK!

To be honest, there are moments when I go "aww.." and "how sweet.." in several parts of this book plus, Kiersten seemed to be a good character......And that's all I could think about on what's somewhat okay in this book.

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

Honestly I just don’t see a point in finishing this. I’m struggling through the beginning and I feel like it could have ended at one book.

I had actually started a different book for 2019, but it deserved my full attention and the day after New Years was not the right day for that book. So I wanted something easy to read, and opened the first one on my kindle by Hoover, not realising this was the 2nd Slammed novel.

I liked this better than the first, because the relationship which I felt was unbelievably quick in the first book was already established and I was OK with that. It was nice to have a change of POV, this time from Will's perspective.

Still with too much poetry for my liking, and cheesy catch phrases, but overall a sweet story, this rates higher than the first for me.
challenging emotional lighthearted relaxing medium-paced

I had already thought about the possibility that in the second book the narrator would be Will so I was pleased that it is so.
But when things started to happen I realized I would rather feel Layken heartache. I understand her point, and although Will's actions were stupid I sometimes felt incoherent. I would rather that he would be piss at V. and yell at her that being soft...that really annoyed me...he was too nice to her even if she is his past he should have not being so caring...and that to me justifies every tantrum that Layken has...

It all begins with one big happy family, with laughs and sweet moments, and a new reality so far so good...as soon as Vaughn enter the scene I felt uncomfortable I could predict what was coming and I did like it, it was too obvious.

Like Will better in Slammed.

Like in Slammed prepare your self for a rollercoaster of emotions and drama, laughs and crying.
