I read this in a few hours. Way better than the first! I actually feel in love with these characters in this book and so much was done better. I definitely loved Will telling the story...maybe that was part of the problem for me in the first book.

This just felt very immature to me. I enjoyed Slammed but this felt like their maturity was moving backwards

I'm suprised by how much I liked this! I didn't love the slam poetry, but besides that I loved the plot and the characters. This book made me laugh out loud, shed a few tears and feel really happy at the end even though it was a little cheesy.

Beautiful...simply beautiful!!

This is a perfect follow-up to Slammed. I really loved all the characters, their quirks and their relationships with each other. As with Slammed, Point of Retreat is a refreshing plot with lots of great lines you want to highlight and remember again. I'm looking forward to Will's Story!

I was sad that I didn't feel for this book what I felt with the first in this series. Getting inside Will's head gave a different look on how I viewed Will from the first book. He seemed inconsistent with the responsible, mature man from slammed. I would have been content with ending the series at book one. With that being said, I still plan on reading book three, this girl. I was a bit lost in trying to figure out the point of this book. I enjoyed getting a view of how life continued for them, but I felt as though the main plot of the story was about Will and Layken finally having sex. I appreciated the questioning of the basis of their relationship as I had some thoughts regarding it as well.

Favorite quotes:
"A man can tell a woman he's in love with her until he's blue in the face. Words don't mean anything to her when her head is full of doubt. You have to show her."
"How? I disabled her car so she'd have to ride here with me today. Short of stalking her, I don't know what else I can do to show her."
My pathetic confession prompts a disapproving look. "That's a good way to get yourself out in jail, not win back the heart of the girl you're in love with," she says.
pg 160

"Sometimes things happen in life that you didn't plan for. All you can do now is suck it up and start mapping out a new plan." pg 178

Set months after Slammed ended, Point of Retreat takes up after Layken's mom has passed and Layken and Will are in a comfortable routine taking care of their younger siblings. Sometimes they do this separately, but mostly, they are there for each other. Helping the other out.

After a beautiful conclusion to Slammed, and a sincere declaration from both Will and Layken, their relationship appears to be solid and strong at the beginning of the story.

However, it doesn't take long for outside forces to get in the way of Layken and Will's love...Yet, again.

Their love is tested. Their faith in each other is tested. And if successful, they can come out of this stronger than they ever were.

There is also a lot more of Gavin and Eddie as we see their relationship progress, as well. And they continue to be two of my favorite characters in the series, adding an element of humor and a loyal friendship that both Will and Layken are sorely in need of throughout the story.

Caulder and Kel are now eleven and are getting older and more mature. I loved that we get a peak at some of their shenanigans at school and, more importantly, a peak at their characters. And they are growing into two very outstanding young men. It left me with a feeling of peace, knowing that these boys would come out okay, even with all that they've been through.

Caulder's and Kel's new friend--and coincidentally, neighbor--Kiersten, is SUCH a delight! I wouldn't have thought that Ms. Hoover could've added another character that I would have become so attached to right off the bat, but there it is! Kiersten's mother, Sherry, also serves to bring a "mother" figure into the story when it appears she's needed the most.

There are some very exciting moments to this story and I was totally unable to put this book down from the MOMENT I picked it up.

All I can say is, WHEN is Ms. Hoover coming out with something new? This book was phenomenal!
