This was the perfect second book in the series and I love will and Layken. I still can’t believe this was Colleen Hoover’s first series because it’s amazing. It’s perfect for a read in one sitting.
Everything explained in my Slammed's review basically speaks it for this novel too.
I have a lot of beef with Layken, as she's a little more emotional than I'd like- always pouting and creating a dramatic situation that could've been easily resolved but she was just too stubborn-- but other than that. These books are worth the time and attention.
Happy Readings, Zoe.

Aw, can not get enough of Will and Lake. It was butterflying awesome. You know when a sequel comes out and you wonder what the hell happened to the original characters. How did the second book go so terribly wrong? Did not happen here. You never once felt like the characters changed to suit the story. They were the Lake and Will we met in Slammed. I liked to see it from Will's point of view this time, his internal dialogue was funny at times.
You can really feel the love Will and Lake have for each other coming threw in every thing they say to one another. If you are going to read this book, you really should read slammed first so you can fall in love with the Cohen/Cooper families from when they first meet. So many great things about this book, the sour and sweet moments, the poetry slams and they way the dealt with bullying. Not enough words can describe how much I loved this book and especially the end. I hope down the line we meet Will and Lake again, maybe when they have their own kids!!

This gets 3.75 stars from me. A quick, nice read, and a lovely follow up to "Slammed," from a new perspective. I had been wanting to read this book from the second I finished "Slammed," but used all my restraint to hold back so I'd have something to look forward to during a long, stressful business trip.
It was nice to catch up with Will and Lake (as if they're old friends), and to get a story in Will's voice. Things wrapped up in a way I wasn't quite expecting, and the cynical part of me wasn't 100% on-board with the ending. The super-duper girly part of me was happy, though.

I seem to have made the biggest reader mistake on this one and didn't bother to read the first book. That's what happens when not paying attention. No I don't feel that i "Had" to read Slammed but i think or know that i would have enjoyed Point of Retreat much more if I had. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the story, and liked it well enough for jumping in mid-series. I'm now intrigued by Layken and Will's story and plan on going back and reading Slammed eventually.
