4.5 stars but I rounded up to 5 because of just how much this book surprised me.

I've read the other books in the Avalon Bay series, and I have to say this one is my favorite. It can be read as a standalone. Either I have a terrible memory, or neither main character was mentioned much in the other two books, which I enjoyed because it was like starting this book with a blank slate.

Cassie and Tate had such good chemistry. I was ready for them to get together almost immediately but did enjoy the will they/wont they build up. Tate was billed as a playboy, but he came off as really just a sweet guy. He was so supportive of Cassie in everything. Particularly when it came to her family.

I did not see the third act twist coming at all. I thought I knew what it was going to be, but when it hit, my jaw was on the floor. And then there were tears as the sub-plot came to an unexpected conclusion. I borrowed this book from my library, but I'm considering adding it to my bookshelf because I will be rereading it at some point in the future to look for all the hints at the twist I missed.

this series gives serious "outer banks" vibes without the treasure hunting
