This book shows a much more reasonable reaction to the idea of, what would you do if you knew when you were going to die. The character development in this book is fully fleshed in even small details. Given that the characters only have one day, the pacing of growth cannot be judged but, the steps Mateo made to go through his growth were not drastic. It was very refreshing to read a book that has a healthy relationship of each side helping each other grow to be a better person and waiting on the other to take their time to do so, even when given the time limit. Found family is a huge element to this book and it is one of my favorite themes of all. The love all around in this book is greatly shown through actions and words from almost all characters. The element of surprise is something that is very prevalent in this book, it shows that nothing is guaranteed or predictable in life at all which is ,obviously, a main plot of the story. The author knows very well of how to distract yourself into forgetting very small aspects of events that previously took place as things that would be easily looked past and seem unimportant in the long run. As much as I think the different storylines are interesting and showcases how life is all interconnected, it can be hard connecting them all. Thankfully the flo chart provided in the back of my version was very helpful.

The story of Mateo and Rufus is incredible, but I got so mad when something was about to happen and then there was this random "chapter" of this character i never really cared, and I ended up skipping them until that part. The format of I guess diary entries are perfect for this book.
The ending? Really enjoyed the whole book being about how they will die, but it still hit me and still hurts. 
My biggest and only complaint is the chapters I really didn't care about, I get that they're there as a speed bump, just to catch our breath and reflect more on the world built, but I still personally didn't enjoy it.

It was honestly not the best thing I read to say the least. I didn't like the insta-love between Mateo and Rufus even though this book is a romance. I feel like the author could've gone without writing their relationship as friends than lovers. I also found those short chapters with random characters to be unnecessary at times except to give more understanding to a situation. I just felt that those chapters didn't add more to the story. I think what made me feel emotional was the ending but other than that it didn't really make me feel anything for it.

Even though knowing how this book is supposed to end, I'm sobbing! I went into this not knowing anything about the story other then the title of the book (despite it being on my tbr since like forever). I'm so glad i decided to read it, the writing style is phenomenal, the story line is so well made up and it just was heartbreaking good!
