There were quite a number of things I liked about this book. It was interesting to read a secondary world fantasy where the "Earth" portion was actually set in the future. You don't see that often. Plus it had been ages since I'd read a secondary world fantasy, so it was a mood I didn't even realize I was in. There was some well done emotional work in here.

But the pacing was definitely uneven, and when I finished the book I realized the problem. There is a difference between setting up for a sequel and just stopping the story in the middle. This book went with the latter. Just when I was really getting into the story and starting to see things coming together the book just... stops. With a note about the title of the sequel. Not a very satisfying ending.
