What a wild and twisty ride! Luca gets kidnapped from his aunt’s house a few months after his mom dies. This story is told from dual POVs - Luca’s aunt and Luca’s kidnapper. This was a slow burn to me. There was great character development and buildup to the climax. This book really picks up the last 40%, and doesn’t slow down until the end. The ending was completely unexpected and all my questions were answered. Very good book!

Nancy Wu was the narrator, and I have realized that her narration doesn’t work for me, especially when it comes to thrillers. I find her pacing and intonations to be off from what’s happening in the story. I would recommend reading this as opposed to listening to the audiobook.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What would you do if your child disappeared suddenly? What would you do if your husband cheated on you and a child was born?

This mystery/thriller starts off with a frantic search. A boy is missing and no one can find him.  Told in three parts, we hear the story first from the boy’s aunt and then the boy’s neighbor and then finally alternating points of view as everything comes together.

There are twists and turns - some obvious and some not obvious. You’ll be on the edge of your seat throughout this read.

Thanks to @netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing the ARC.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book. A young boy went missing from his aunt and uncle's house. His mother had passed away recently and their past was unknown as they had been homeless roaming the country together. As they struggled for answers and the list of suspects grew, I was left wondering who on earth could have taken the boy, and why?
After that things unfortunately fell a bit flat for me. I found the culprit a bit one dimensional. It just didn't draw me in or make me feel connected in any way and felt a bit disjointed.

There was one line in which I also found...confusing? "And then my mind shattered, my head bursting until all my cells went flying all over the room. They spattered Herman, and spattered the people now running into the room, hovering over me."
It continues from there but it was just a really strange way to word things for me.

I did enjoy many of the characters, though and look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book.
