Not as good as #1, too many Rielle chapters that made me mad. She loves Corien why? It still didn’t really compute why he has such a sway- bc of her childhood trauma? Also less of L. She’s so annoying and manipulative.

disappointingly boring

I expected the story to get better but it just got worse. People praised this book so much that I expected way more. Don’t get me wrong, it was not awful, but it was boring. I feel like I read the first book all over again.

Rielle had to prove she was worthy or her powers, while, secretly, she wanted to muted everyone. At the same time, she desperately wants to get laid and Corien manipulates her. Meanwhile, Eliana makes reckless decisions that get her kidnapped. That was the first half of it.

The dialogues were cringey, the characters were stupid and the fights were unnecessary and boring. I cared about Rielle’s story, I wanted to find out what really happened, but I despised Rielle, Audric and Corien so much it was hard to read. Eliana’s story was just stupid. She was a better main character (although incredibly unlikeable), but everything that happened was predictable and didn’t make sense.

The ending had good plot twists but it was too late for me to care. This book could have easily been 200 pages shorter.

The mind is fragile, and time is pitiless.”

quick review: writing 5/5 | characters 5/5| plot 5/5

claire legrand does it again! book two of the empirium trilogy was truly a page turner just like the first book. this was also the first fantasy book i’ve read that actually had both of the female mc be on their periods, which was honestly a pleasant shoker.
