This was definitely a harder, sadder read. Still very excellent but somewhat less actually enjoyable. I think what I like best about it is that we got several snippets from Temeraire's POV- a lovely thing, indeed.

Certainly interested in where this goes next, and naturally am starting the next book immediately as I have no self control, lol.

I enjoyed this better than the first 4. I feel like the author always had a great concept but it is only in this novel that we are finally seeing a full scale land war really utilizing dragons. I found it really interesting and loved all the dragon influenced politics and specific battle info that normal I would skim.

I am seriously concerned that this is the culmination of the series and what happens next will be only more of the long narrative that filled the first books. I will read them regardless, of course.

Another great entry for the Temeraire series! This paired with book 4 makes for an amazing, heart wrenching read. I adore this series so far and I’m looking forward to seeing where the books go from here!
