When "Star Wars: Heir to the Empire" was first released, it filled the void left by an absentee Star Wars franchise. Now, in the age of Star Wars Bombardment, "Heir to the Empire" not only exists at "what was" for Star Wars fans, but as a "dream long remembered" where Luke was heroic, Han and Leia were together, and the war waged was not on an ambiguous moral battleground but between pure good and evil. While I enjoy the new string of Disney/Lucasfilm Star Wars, then there is a joyful, adventurous simplicity in "Heir to the Empire" that is absent from modern storytelling.

This was great! Wish they would have made it into a movie. R2D2 was hands down the best character.

Easy 4.5/5 for me, which is a compliment given that Star Wars books are usually a miss for me.

Obviously the Thrawn Trilogy is the most famous of all the Star Wars books, and probably the most well-received too. After reading "Heir," I can see why. Timothy Zahn does a pretty good job in introducing a smart military tactician in Grand Admiral Thrawn, which is something that Star Wars did not have in the OT, while also capturing the feel of the "big three" characters that we know and love. The plot was easy enough to follow along with and I felt myself fully invested in it. While nothing about the story blew me away (yet), it was still very engaging.

I'll also say that the audiobook with Marc Thompson was absolutely excellent and made the experience 100x better than it would've been without him.

Definitely can't wait to move on to the next book in the trilogy!
