This is a Stevie Rae and Rephaim centered book, and again I think this was a pretty good idea. I like the way their story resolves, for the most part, and I think it was the most interesting thing currently going on in the series.
I'm glad that it wasn't dragged out to increase the tension, and the "forbidden romance" angle works pretty well for them.
The ending was also a pretty big shock when I was younger, so I think that was a good call to set up momentum for the next story.

While I enjoyed it, the ongoing saga of Neferet and Kalona feels stale.  Eight books in, the repetitive conflict lacks the spark of a fresh storyline.   The "White Bull" feels like an extension of Neferet's villainy, rather than a truly new threat.

The ageless Vampiric Council also fails to impress.  Their supposed wisdom is overshadowed by repeated poor decisions.

It's time to shake things up.   The core cast remains engaging, but a new villain and a fresh storyline could reignite the series'  intrigue.  Hopefully, future installments will deliver a more innovative plot while retaining the characters we've come to know.

If this was the first book in the House of Night series I would probably not keep reading. I don't get it. The first few books were really great but they keep getting sillier and sillier as the story progresses. Okay, to be fair, these are YA novels and I'm a thirtysomething woman, so I'm not exactly the audience they're going for here. I can actually see why teenagers would like these books. Heck, I'm still reading them, too. I do enjoy the characters and the story for the most part, but I keep hoping the books will get a bit better again. I'll probably still read the next ones since I've already invested this much in the series.

This book rocked; it was better than the last and i so cannot wait for the next one. And I cannot wait to see what will happen with Kalona.Totally. I hope Zoey kicks his immortal ass.

Gah. I hate to say this, but this particular story was perhaps the lamest in the series. :-/

The thing I like most about this book in the series (aside from stark and zoey FINALLY starting a relationship) was that it gave you the perspective of other characters. Its rare in these books that you hear from anyone aside from zoey, but this one we got the POVs of multiple characters. It made it nice so that I didn't have to wonder what was going on with the others, what they were doing or how anyone was.
