How THE FUCK did y'all make me read a romanticised version of Hippolyte and Theseus?? THESEUS? IS THAT SAME FUCKING GUY WE KNOW FROM GREEK MYTH? THE ONE THAT PUT DRUGS IN HER DRINKS AND KIDNAPPED HER DESPITE MULTIPLE OCCASSIONS THAT SHE SAID SHE DID NOT WANT TO GO TO ATHENS? IS THAT NOT RAPE CULTURE? Oh by the way, he gave her a chance to kill him, and she didn't, because she loves him uwu. FUCK. OFF.
Okay so she is drugged and kidnapped, but she will try to escape, right? because she's suchhhh a fearless warrior and she will not just be contended by the palace? nope. Not even once. He gave her a horse and suddenly she's all willing to stay. Her sisters went out of their way to come and save her, by the way, but she said "he loves me in his own way" LIKE WHAT? HOW IS THAT ACCEPTABLE? YOU'RE TELLING ME I HAVE TO SIT THROUGH THIS? YOU MAKE ME READ THIS WITH MY OWN EYES? Oh and she decided to become a wife and a mother, by the way. Soooooo feminist. All this for a guy? All this for a guy that kidnapped you? Yikes.
I feel disgusting after reading this that I need to take a shower and maybe whatever Theseus put in Hippolyte's drink to make me forget I read this book. And hey, I know Hannah M. Lynn is chronically online, so if you see this, spare me and don't try to pick a fight with me. Okay? Thanks. Fucking disgusting. Hippolyte is possibly one of the best women in Greek myth, and she's a daughter of Ares!!! How tf did you turn her into this lil shit. Spare me."
I feel like the purpose for feminist greek myth retellings is reclaIming what has happened and the narrative. It's vengeance. It's not RELIEVING THE TRAUMA.
