REVIEW FOR FUTURE ME WHEN I FORGET THAT I EVEN READ THIS BOOK:
You are an idiot. No.
You are an idiot. No.
I never expected to fall in love with Vicious (the book) or with Vicious (the hero). Whatever, I can use them interchangeably (I love both anyway).
From what I've heard, Vicious (the hero) was deliberately cruel, and let's just say I've had enough of cruel heroes in the past weeks to last a lifetime. And so I thought, I'll just pick this up and see what the fuss is all about, just to show everyone that "Yeah, yeah, I tried reading it but I wasn't impressed." I mean, really. A hero who would call the heroine, Help? That was pretty insulting to me. It would be impossible to enjoy the book and like him, right?
Lo and behold, my experience could not have been more different. And...surprise, surprise! I didn't find Vicious cruel at all.
He was just so obsessed with Millie (the heroine). Not the stalker kind nor the shower-you-with-flowers-and-gifts kind, because those would have been too boring. Rather, he's the I'll-harass-you-and-make-you-suffer-if-I-cannot-have-you type of obsessed, which I know is the unhealthiest of all obsessions but is apparently the kind I liked unbeknownst to me.
Millie, at first, didn’t sound like the type of heroine I would like; she seemed too weak for my taste.
But then I finally got around to reading more pages, and I realized that Millie-the-Help, though poor, is not weak. She is strong-willed and can hold her own against Vicious' schemes.
This was not your typical love-hate romance. It's incomparable - a total game-changer. As I said, I didn't quite expect to feel strongly about this book, only to find myself falling in love with this beautifully written story.

okay so new favorite. i’m still thinking about this book. read it on my phone immediately wanted to buy the physical copy, it’s that good. LOVED LOVED LOVED.
I have an idea! Why don't we call this book "Douchebag" instead of "Vicious".
I have reached a point where I don't even get surprised by the lack of actual writing in books anymore. Everything I have read in this genre for the past 4 years, with little exception, is simple, boring and formulaic.
"Vicious" was no exception.
Baron Spencer a.k.a Vicious, the main character, is exactly what his nickname implies. A vicious man.
I think the author believes that being a "vicious" person is a good thing.
Throughout the whole book I read as the author tried to glorify a man that was born and raised in extreme wealth and believed that because he had money he owned everybody. He treated women like property, he expected everything to be handed to him on a silver platter and had this air of superiority around him that drove me crazy.
Newsflash! You didn't contribute in your wealth in any way. You were just fortunate enough to be rich by birth. Be grateful douchebag!
But no. Vicious is, probably, one of the most ungrateful people I have ever seen. He flaunted his riches in other people's faces, he called the people that worked for him "servants" and considered them his property, he used women and spoke to them like they were animals and don't let me start on his inner monologues. I mean wow. What a misogynistic, self entitled prick.
I wanted to sucker punch that dude in the face very badly.
But I won't go on an endless rant about this guy. I will simply leave the book speak for itself. Here are some of my favorite things said or thought by Vicious:
¤" This was so on. I was going to fuck Dean’s ex-girlfriend, use her for my personal needs, and toss her away when I was done."
¤"If I couldn’t have her, no one else could."
¤"She didn’t kiss me back, but she’d wanted to. Still did. She was a terrible liar, and she wanted me."
That's what a rapist would say dear!
¤"She was mine. The way I teased her, taunted her. I was normally too busy with the shit that was going on in my life to bully people. Everybody knew that the new girl belonged to me.
I never in a million years would have dated her or even taken her out. She wasn’t worth the trouble. No girl was, and especially not her. Still, she was mine to play with."
Because nothing says love like extensive bullying.
¤"It had nothing to do with me wanting to mark her first. I mean, I did. Of course I wanted that. But I would’ve taken her even if she’d slept with every single guy at All Saints High."
First off, what does "mark her first" mean? What is she?A cow?
And secondly, Vicious in this part of the book is only 18 years old and has already slept with half his school. So why does he judge Emilia for her sexual partners or lack thereof? Double standards much?
¤"That’s when I made the executive decision that she could no longer live in Todos Santos. She had to disappear and stay the fuck away from everything and everyone I knew.
I wasn’t stupid. I realized that I was preventing her from being around her sister and her parents. Her boyfriend. I was banishing her from everything she knew.
I was ruining her life.
Because. I. Was. Jealous."
Nice. This guy ruined a girl's life because he was jealous and simply because he had the power to do it. Way to go douchebag!
¤"I wanted that pussy, and I deserved it. It was mine."
No. You don't get to be the judge of that. Whether you deserve it or not it's not your choise to make. And no. "That pussy" is not yours unless you actually are the woman that owns it. Self entitled prick.
*sigh*
You get my point. I don't like Vicious... at all!
Emilia, the heroine, like always, is nothing exceptional. She is not smart or particularly funny or has an opinion of her own. She lets people walk all over her and especially Vicious. Despite everything he has ever done to her she still wants him fiercely and obeys his commands, because that guy never asks anything. He always commands like a fucking king. And why you may ask? Oh because he is hot and rich of course. That gives him the excuse to do anything apparently.
Ridiculous.

Let me start with this. I’m totally #TeamDean, hence Vicious was a sore spot for me always.
He is not the nicest hero ever. He barely has any redeemable qualities and he is constantly and asshole.
He bullied and hurt Emilia in many ways, yet she still loves him.
Love is a weird thing...
Anyway, back to the book, halfway through it Millie finally showed him up and I was getting so excited about that part. She made Vicious work for it and proved his love which was a key point for me after years of hurting her and being an ass.
I understand Vicious had a bad past and his reasons but he completely disrespected her and that was a big nooooo for me.
Until he didn’t.
I even cried out of the blue moon when he finally started changing with her and his frozen heart started melting up towards her. It was amazing

I wanted to love this book. I was initially drawn to it because of the pretty pink edges and because of the type of book it is. I love a good enemies to lovers, it's actually my favorite trope, but this one just didn't do it for me and I'm not really sure why. I guess the development of the hate from the male character to the female character either didn't resonate or didn't make sense to me. Either way, it wasn't a bad read just not my personal favorite.
