Het boek kent een uitstekend uitgangspunt wat geschapen is in het vorige boek en het begin belooft veel goeds, maar ergens heb ik het gevoel dat dit boek van hele losse eindjes aan elkaar hangt. Ja, het leest lekker weg en het is vermakelijk op je nachtkastje, ja het bevat hele leuke elementen, maar het was geen wow boek, geen "ik kan het niet wegleggen"-boek, geen spetterende climax, geen slot dat alles afrond. Ik denk dat in dit laatste deel pijnlijk duidelijk wordt dat het einde niet 100% klopt. Dit was niet waar de boeken naartoe bewogen en dit was niet hoe het had moeten aflopen en ow wat ben ik nu nieuwsgierig hoe het had MOETEN aflopen!

Over het boek zelf. Heel veel losse eindjes worden aan elkaar geknoopt, maar wat mij betreft gebeurt dit veel te snel en veel te "makkelijk". De problemen die onoverkomelijk zijn, blijken ineens met een knip van de vingers te zijn op te lossen. Het is verbazingwekkend hoe de climax verandert in een anti-climax. Er zitten wel hele spannende elementen in het verhaal, ook hele interessante elementen, maar het voelt niet als een afrondend geheel en het voelt voor mij een beetje onbevredigend. Er had meer in gezeten, dat voel ik, en ik vind het jammer dat dat er niet is uitgekomen. Er worden verhaallijnen afgeraffeld en ineens afgerond of verdraait. Verrassend in sommige opzichten, maar een beetje te makkelijk in veel anderen...de personages komen er eigenlijk veel te goed en makkelijk vanaf...

En waar ik me het allermeest aan stoor is de verhaallijn van Matt Honeycutt. Het spijt me verschrikkelijk, maar was het nu zo moeilijk om zijn verhaallijn ook even recht te trekken zoals je met de rest hebt gedaan? Serieus, dit voelt vet oneerlijk. De enige die het in mijn ogen ECHT verdiend had...

*SPOILER*Het einde van het boek is te klef voor woorden voor bijna iedereen...Meredith, Bonnie, Elena, Stefan, Damon, Katherine...en wie staat er met lege handen omdat de schrijvers het nodig vonden om zijn vriendinnetje af te slachten? Precies: Matt Honeycutt! Serieus...het hele einde is een lang en gelukkig, behalve van Matt. Volgens mij hebben de schrijvers een hekel aan hem...

I am so happy with this ending and everything that happened. I totally did not see that ending coming but it is so good and I am happy. But poor Matt. He will find someone I hope.

At this point, I'm reading just to finish the series and see the end but I'm tired of the same thing happening every book. There's always someone worse, and they always get more power and win. 

I'm disappointed Elena is with Stefan again but I'm curious what will happen now that she and Damon have that connection and he decided to leave them for good.

More like 2.5 stars. The first books in the Vampire Diaries series were so great! They've definitely lost a lot of what made them interesting to read earlier on. I'm not sure if I'd be motivated enough to keep reading should more books come out. I'm glad I read this one, as there was some conclusion to the story, but I kinda felt like I wasted time reading the whole thing. I should have just read the last 50 pages.

Elena develops aura-seeing powers. Then she develops some telekinesis. Then she learns that she is the One, a Guardian On Earth who was born of a Principal Guardian. Which means her mother was a Guardian who rejected her past and mated with some human dudes and produced Elena and Margaret...and Katherine. Yes, really. And the worst part? Not that this Elena is used to being the "fragile" one who holds back from fights, but that Elena's mother convinced her "closest friend Judith" to pretend to be her sister and raise Elena and Margaret, and as long as they were in her care, they wouldn't be harmed by whatever. JUDITH GILBERT, who is Elena's father's sister. My SO was like, "You can't expect a ghostwriter to have read the previous books, ha ha! /sarcasm. UGH.

This was pathetic. I could not possibly care less about these book-crossed-with-tv hybrid imitations of the original characters.

Good, but not as good as the ones written by the original author L.J. Smith. I prefer how Smith wrote the characters and how she was planing on pairing everyone, I feel like they were a bit out of character in all the books in the “Hunters” part of the series. Wish I would’ve known Smith didn’t write these books before I purchased, still worth the read to see how the story finish. I heard Smith wrote FanFiction to finish up the series how she planned though, I’m going to try and hunt those books down.

The reveals in this book! ||When you find out Katherine is Elena’s sister, serios OMG moment||. May I say again ||POOR MATT, please give the guy a break, every time he gets the tiniest glimmer of happiness they promptly rip it away||. I was so sad about ||Meredith's brother||. I enjoyed this book though it did still have that slightly disjointed feeling in parts. I'm glad ||Klaus is gone and we finally find out whats been going on with caroline since the timeline changed||. Everything seems resolved and I am wondering what on earth they will throw at us in the next book.
