Shocking, brilliant page turner!!!

Words almost fail me as I try to review this book. Browne is a gifted writer, I have read all of her books and I always think this by the time I finish them. I’m not sure what clicks in her brilliant brain to deliver yet another heart stopping, hold your breath till the end, page turning thriller but Sheryl Browne has done it again! The Family Secret is a stunning thriller and the way that Browne weaves her story together is spectacular.

This book will grip you immediately and by the last 20 percent shock you, scare you and make your heart beat right out of your chest!

Highly recommend reading this amazing novel!

Almost everything in this book fell flat for me. Everything was really predictable, I didn't connect to any of the characters, and I didn't care what happened to them. The blurb on the book led me to believe that there would be a lot of suspense in this book, and to me, there was none. I honestly was bored throughout most of it, and there were a number of times I almost walked away from it and marked it as DNF. Additionally, I've see other reviewers mentioning that they felt it was fast-paced, and I didn't feel the same way. It could be because I was so bored, but I felt like the story dragged on, and considering the book was less than 300 pages, that's not a great thing.

I can't say I'd recommend this book, though the book has decent reviews, so I'm clearly in the minority here. I have a few other books by Sheryl Browne on my list, and I'll have to do some more research to decide if I still want to read them. The one thing I will give her is that she's a fine writer. I had no issue with her writing, just issue with the way it was executed, the end was so bad, and the story-line itself was unbelievable.

Thank you NetGalley, Sheryl Browne and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an impartial review; all opinions are my own.

I chucked a bit when I read the blurb that talked about finding a family member you didn't know you had, and to "be careful what you wish for". Because oh how I know all about that. So this of course sparked my attention and I was thrilled when I got an ARC for it.

Claire is struggling with her cheating husband, a distant daughter and a sick father. Then, she receives a text from Sophie, who says she is her half sister. Claire feels like this is a sign and welcomes her into her life. But what does she really know about her and how is she really connected to this family? Buckle up for a twisty domestic thriller that does not fail to disappoint.

I look forward to the next books by this author and have started to read all her previous ones. Add her to the list of authors you don't want to miss.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Family drama with some extremely irrational behavior by the main character, which of course feeds into the plot and fans the flames of the mysterious "secrets". I found it very predictable, and felt the plot was truncated by the author's effort to tell the story from different POVs, not entirely successfully.

3,5 stars. I was kindly gifted an arc of this book by Netgalley. Thank you to the author and the publisher.

This book was such a thrilling read! I got sucked into it immediately and while I saw the plot twist coming from miles away, it was still a surprise when it finally happened! Sheryl's writing is so quick and is a perfect mix between showing and telling, which really helps with the suspense of this thriller. While the characters were very predictable, I really felt for their situation. I don't get why people never talk to each other in these situations though, as this could've been solved way sooner had they just TALKED to each other!

'Claire always wished for a sister. But should you be careful what you wish for?'

What would you do if you got a text message out of the blue saying 'you don't know me, but I'm your sister'? Claire always wished for a sister, and with her father increasingly unwell with dementia and her husband having an affair, the appearance of a half-sister, Sophie, comes at just the right time. But what will happen as Claire allows Sophie into her life more and more, can you really trust who people say they are? With dark twists and turns, The Family Secret really is as gripping as they come.

I absolutely adored this book, domestic thrillers have fast become my favourite genre and this certainly didn't disappoint. Very cleverly written, I was left guessing until the end. Each chapter was told from a different perspective; mainly that of Claire or her husband Luke, but also we saw insights from Sophie and Claire's father, Bernard. I felt this added to the suspense, and further added to the many strands of the unfolding secret without giving anything away.

I found Claire to be frustrating at times, she was incredibly quick to disregard her husband and believe someone she'd never met. It seemed funny how she went from being so overprotective of her young daughter around her own father, to trusting her completely with a woman she only just met. But having reflected on it, I suspect that it is intentional to encourage the reader to turn on certain characters and be as trusting as Claire.

Overall I found The Family Secret to be a gripping read, and I will certainly be reading more of Sheryl Browne's novels in future.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Omg Sheryl Browne has blown me away again with yet another great thriller. This one kept me up until the early hours of the morning I literally couldn't put it down. Claire has always wished she had a sister. Then one day she receives a text message from Sophie saying 'You don't know me, but I'm your sister'. Claire ends up meeting up with Sophie and bonding with her very quickly both of them are surprised by how much they have in common and how alike they are. For a while everything is great between them but then Claire starts to doubt that Sophie's motivations for contacting her after all this time. Was her wish for a sister something she will come to regret? A great thriller that left me breathless as I couldn't wait to see how it would all conclude. A spellbinding read. #sherylbrowne #theperfectsister #netgalley #goodreads #tea_sipping_bookworm #litsy #bookstagram #bookqueen #greatreads #thriller #amazon#kindle

This book felt very disjointed. I didn’t mind that each chapter was from a different characters perspective, usually I like that, but it didn’t flow well. I felt things were a little too predictable and by the time you got the big twist it was shocking enough for me. I do appreciate NetGalley and Bookouture the opportunity for allowing me to receive an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
