very whimsical & fun; however i get a slight Narnia vibe, in the sense that there's a lot of white ppl in the story, combined with the name of the series. this aslect could be so much worse! but it could also be better

Maybe not my absolute favorite of this series but that's just nitpicking. The Kingdom and Empires books are exactly the kind of joyous, silly, complicatedly easy fantasy that you want to read when you want to read a book like you read when you were a kid -as yes they are for kids but also so much for adults too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I wasn't sure if I'd like it as much as the previous books, because I worried that adding a child from our world to the mix would change the vibe, but this book really felt as whimsical and charmingly eccentric as the other! I also really enjoyed the
group therapy session!

Beginning in Sydney Australia, twelve year old Oscar has to write an essay explaining his absence from school.
The second narrator is Imogene, one of three sisters.
The quest has elements similar to The Wizard of Oz; and is light in tone.
