I borrowed this book via Kindle, but now that I have read it, I intend to purchase it and keep it for all time as a sort of reference book for my life.
What a great book to read at the beginning of the year! Her advice is amazing and gave me some great insight.
It was much heavier than I was expecting. She gives good advice, but heavy....whoa.
A sprinkle of truthiness and a lot of the author’s insertions of her personal memories that made me question if she was helping or just likes talking about herself and calling it “giving advice.” I would’ve shelved this book, but I had already added it to my 2024 reading journal so there was no going back.
I picked this up based on a recommendation from a friend. I was a *bit* skeptical as I'm not really one for advice columns - but this book is so much more than trite advice handed out by someone living in an ivory tower. Ms. Strayed offered up her advice in a blunt and straightforward manner that I appreciated, even if I didn't always agree with what she thought. She is a wonderful writer and I absolutely loved this book - I'll definitely be telling my college-age daughter to pick this up for her own library.
2.5 rounded up but I just don’t think I like these types of books. I also think the author would go too far into her own life and kinda lost me while I was reading her responses.
I have to admit that I found myself bored at times while I read this one. However, Cheryl's writing really is beautiful and some of the passages were excellent.
I can’t believe how much I loved this book. A collection of advice columns? You’ve got to be kidding! But I was hooked before I had read even ten pages. I want to have coffee with this author. I want her to join us around the Thanksgiving turkey. I want her to come to my mom’s house on Christmas. I want her to be my friend and confidante.
