The book kept me interested through to the end, but the drama was starting to get a little too over-the-top by the end.

2.5 ⭐️ first half dragged and the second kept me curious enough to want to finish the series

Damn what a great beginning for a series I loveeee so much julian and scarlet and Im so excited for the second book!!!

Disappointed in this one, I wanted to love it like so many others have. But this was just one big nope for me. You know what I did love? The cover! It’s pretty and visually appealing and that’s part of why I read it.

The FMC is most ridiculously bland and boring character I’ve ever come across. She makes so many stupid decisions throughout the book. All about finding her sister and then chooses a man? Are we for real right now?! The whole plot of this story is being reunited with Tella and girly changes gears and goes after a man? WHY?! All to go back to her original plan 5 minutes later.
I got the vibes that this girl was underage based on her mannerisms and immaturity. The arranged marriage bit was icky, she comes across as teen at best. I did love how Julian called her ‘Crimson’ repeatedly, I got a chuckle out of that.

I’m still confused on how the balconies and floors and everything worked? I could not for the life of my visualize how that looks. Then there are tunnels? To the balconies? Honestly, I have no idea where the book was taking place, I was so confused. It started off as a house, then floors of floors of balconies, then it was a theatre, but then it’s also outside? Whatever it was, there was clearly a disconnect of setting the scene.

Additionally, why does everything need a colour explanation? I’m fairly certain colours were mentioned every 5th word. I don’t know guys, I was expecting a scavenger hunt, mystery, with some kind of cirque du soleil vibe. This was definitely not what I was expecting.

I’m really not sure how this became a trilogy. I don’t even care about the ‘cliffhanger’ in the epilogue, I do not give a single fluff about any of these characters or their story.
Safe to say I won’t read the next two books. I should have DNF’d this at 15% but I powered through thinking it would get better. It didn’t. Maybe I’m used to books that come with a slew of trigger warnings, but this was way too YA for me.

It was really good just hard for me to get into
