Trigger warnings: gentrification, violence, death, attempted kidnapping, violence, description of war, injuries, strained parent-child relationship

I was looking forward to this book after I read the first in the series earlier this year. The first book had some out-there plot points but was mostly entertaining and I was hoping this one would be more grounded but just as fun, and that's what I got! I was surprised to learn about the identity of the main character from the Vega family; there is not a lot shared about Saint in the first book so I wasn't expecting him to step into the spotlight. However, I do think it was a really smart choice. I really enjoyed him as a character and was super interested in his life as a parent. I love romances with single parents; they're my not-guilty-at-all pleasure! Lola was also a really interesting character. I liked getting to know her and her really intense and complicated life and upbringing. I connected a lot with her desire for justice and fairness for the world. I found the conflict in this novel to be really intriguing and also refreshing. It felt more real; it had a lot to do with the main characters' personalities, morals and values and understanding how these are shaped by both positive and negative experiences of life. It gave a lot of nuance to the story and made it feel like it could actually be playing out in my neighborhood. Rosie absolutely stole the show along with the grandfathers (again), but this time around it felt a lot more genuine and integral to the story. Looking forward to the angst and drama I'm sure will happen in the third book!

I definitely like the first book more but this was pretty cute after I got into it. This book had great representation in it for being a straight passing relationship. The advocation for the LGBTQ center was really sweet and I could feel Lola's passion for it.

Abuelo is always a star character. I love a meddling old man!

I normally don't like second chance romance but it worked well. They both grew in a lot of different ways that benefited them to be together. Saint's daughter was really cute and I loved seeing Lola interacting with her being her teacher. And of course the special moment that she feels safe to speak to her got to me.

This audio book was definitely a bit of difficult one with the Spanish. Puerto Rican Spanish is definitely different than the Spanish I am used to. I loved the banter and bond between Saint and his family. Rosie is my absolute favorite putting the adults in her life in her place.

I loved Lola's passion for her causes and her students. I feel she definitely described the struggles of most if not every teacher. Her taking her childhood and struggles into something positive to making changes. Love the history and advocacy built into this story.

The backstory built into this between Lola and Saint as well as the rest if the family was amazing. The abuelos were also my favorite with their sass and pranks. This book really got me in the feels. The humor and sarcasm were all my favorite.
Although technically there was third breakup in this book, well 2, they both made sense.
