A plane appears out of nowhere and contains no pilot, no crew, only 36 infants. Flash forward 12 years and middle schoolers Jonah and Chip are researching their own adoption history only to be met with FBI connections, secret files, and possible time travel.

I first read this book as an ARC when I was a kid and it FASCINATED me. Re-reading as an adult, it's still a wonderfully compelling sci-fi thriller. [a:Margaret Peterson Haddix|14617|Margaret Peterson Haddix|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1309842407p2/14617.jpg] is one of my favorite middle grade/YA authors because her books capture much of the essence so many of us love about adult thrillers, while still being appropriate and relatable for kids.

I read this book aloud on my YouTube channel for my students if you want to hear it!

I still like Haddix as much as I did when I was a kid.

I read this book out loud to my brothers...it hooked us right off. Kept on the edge of our seats in suspense, we didn't sleep until we'd finished this book!

Exciting middle grade adventure. It seems to have gotten my 13yo out of a reading slump too.

OBOB 2017 read- I'm of two minds on this one- As an adult, Jonah is a terrible protagonist (does he have to try and resist EVERYTHING?) and Katherine is by far the most interesting character. I still can't believe she's the younger sibling when she just seems so much smarter and mature than Jonah.
As a 6th grader, I would have loved this book. Kids being kids with a crazy science fiction series kick-off at the end. I'd recommend it for it's target age group any day. So in the end, it does what it sets out to do. Eventually.

Got this book in a collection of audio books, and I must say I rather enjoyed this quick book. I felt like the thought processes of Jonah and his sister were absolutely perfect--I identified a lot with Jonah even though I wasn't adopted.
Honestly didn't see the whole 'time' aspect coming, and though I think that the "bad guys" were completely laughable and unrealistic, I was at least surprised.
May continue this series if my library has the next ones on audio, otherwise I probably won't. Especially since it appears that the next one will be quite a different style of setting....

amazing traveling companion >_<

I felt the book was good - the writing was solid, plot pretty straight forward, the characters well drawn. But it seemed drawn out until the very end where it ended rather abruptly.

Fast, easy, and intriguing read with lots of twists and turns. Excited to read more in the series!

Ok, this turned out a little more interesting than it seemed it would in the beginning, but the narration is still very naive sounding, and while the premise is interesting, the writing style is too jarring as an adult to tolerate reading more.

I will definitely be googling to find out the "answers" to questions from the end of this book, but I am not compelled to read the rest of the series (which - books like this which are obviously written in a way to be a series piss me off).
