Not at all what I expected! An interesting story about a boy who fights spirits and family!

This is one of the big three so I wanted to read it. Also, I knew there were characters of color in it, as a Black Woman, that will definitely urge me want to read a story. I started watching the anime and wasn't into it, so I paused watching to read it first. That sometimes grabs my attention and allows me to understand the story better. Not disappointed, it's a very quick read, even for 3-in-1 volumes. The illustrations are beautiful and the storyline are interesting. I'm a fan of demon/exorcising manga and this basically that.

I enjoyed the moments of goofy humor and the excitement of the fights, but feel like I'd probably enjoy the anime more--it was hard to keep track of the characters in black and white (when your protagonist's defining physical trait is his orange hair, it's a shame to keep him in monochrome), and it was so action-packed that sometimes I couldn't tell what was happening in the battles.

Anyway, the main reason I read this is because in 2009 I discovered that Ichigo and I were hair twins, so I've always been mildly curious about the series. Now I know, and I'm only a little sad about the missed cosplay opportunity.
