I read this in the store to my sister and we were both cracking up! What a perfect book for a read aloud.

Ik was laatst in de boekenwinkel en ik zag dit boek. Ik heb het meteen gepakt, opengeslagen en een stukje gelezen, waarop mijn vriend zat te zuchten en grapjes te maken dat ik weer verdwaalde in een boek terwijl we onderweg waren naar een ander boek (die ik had gezien en waarvan ik wilde weten of de bibliotheek hem had). Maar toen hij het boek zag, moest hij ook lachen en we hebben samen het boek gelezen in de boekenwinkel.
Wat een geweldig leuk boek was dit zeg! Ik moest echt zo lachen om de stemmen van dit boek. Het was echt zoals ze in het Engels zeggen: It broke the fourth wall. En dat deed het. We hebben 2 stemmen, eentje die ons van alles verteld over het boek en dan een andere stem die lekker recalcitrant er tegenin ging en allemaal grappige dingen deed en zei. Sound effects, grapjes, woorden die kinderen heerlijk vinden om te zeggen (want ze zijn een beetje stout/fout) en nog meer. Het is geweldig om de ene stem die zien zeggen dat hij het niet wilt zeggen en dat hij weigert en dan die andere die gewoon doet waar hij zin in heeft.
Ik lach echt telkens gewoon dubbel.
Ik moet eerlijk zijn dat ik een beetje bezorgd was om het boek. Het boek is in de vorm van wat normaal een prentenboek is, maar het heeft geen tekeningen, echt niet. Alleen maar woorden. En ik vroeg me toch af hoe dat werkte. Zou het werken? Of is het toch zo leeg? Wel, ik kan nu zeggen dat het af en toe inderdaad leeg is, maar dat de tekst, het breken van de fourth wall, het allemaal helemaal goed maakt. En dat je het op een gegeven moment niet eens erg vindt dat er geen plaatjes zijn. Je vergeet zelfs dat er plaatjes moeten zijn.
Ik denk dat iedereen (niet alleen kinderen) dit boek helemaal geweldig vinden en ik denk dat velen dit boek wel in de collectie willen hebben. Ik weet dat ik dit boek zeker ga kopen. Ik weet nog niet zeker of ik hem in de originele taal wil hebben of in mijn taal, degene waarin ik hem heb gelezen. Misschien neem ik ze wel allebei. :)
Ik zou dit boek zeker aanraden aan iedereen. Lees dit en lig dubbel van het lachen.

About the Book
This book is destined to be a HUGE hit with all children.
It is, as it says, a book with no pictures.
It's also a book that will have kids:
Laughing

Talking
Enjoying Reading
Imagining
Listening
Oh, yes, it involves the parents/readers too!
For, just like all good books, the reader has to commit to reading every word aloud.
Even words like:
BLORK
And
I am a robot monkey!
You will:
Embarrass yourself
Enjoy yourself
Inspire a child to read
It is anything but boring.
What I Thought
This book does so many things, on so many levels.
Firstly, it helps a child and a parent ( or any combination of child and reader) bond over the beauty that is story telling. It will have the child sitting on the edge of their seat, in anticipation of what will be read next. They love every word that comes out of the reader's mouth and find joy in reading, even when there are no words.
Secondly, it inspires children to read. Often, we find children learn to 'read,' but have only really fallen in love with pictures and picture books. They haven't learned to love the real beauty of reading - the imaginative, joyful process of feeling the words and imagining the result. Only when they have done that can they truly enjoy a book, for they have created a world all their own. This books inspires the first steps of that. The children listen intently as they are read to. None of the words are set to picture, so they set off themselves, imagining the reader as they will.
I can only imagine what some of the robot monkeys look like, much less what a blork is!
Next, it promotes laughter and fun. In a world where things are too serious too fast, ever changing and always moving, this book gets us to stop and just...laugh. Adult and child alike, you will feel lighter and happier after reading this book. I even felt lighter reading it aloud, to myself, when I first read through!
Finally, it gives adults a chance to let loose. We all need a moment to just, well, make fun of ourselves. We get too caught up in business and how to make ends meet. We are always trying to look our best. This book ruins all that, in such a good way. We learn to embarrass ourselves and laugh at ourselves, in a great way. It brings you and your children closer and shows them that it's ok to be silly sometimes.
Overall, I am so impressed by this book. As I said above, this is so much more than just a fun children's book. It is a way to inspire, to dream, to laugh, to love , to bond and to enjoy time with those you love. I honestly love this book and think it is a great purchase you should make for you and your children. They will love it and they'll see, sometimes it is more fun to read A book With No Pictures!

Who needs pictures when you have pages and pages of silly things that MUST be read out loud to teeny tiny audiences?

This book is a funny quick read. I am not entirely sure what genre this book falls under. There are some nonsense words in it. It would be fun for upper elementary students to use this book to practice using expression with their reading if you did it as a reader's theater. There is no real plot to it.

This was a fun and a cute book to read out loud with my kindergarteners and first graders. They were so ecstatic the whole time!
