When Lee Child's brother took over the franchise, I was not happy. Where Lee writes with so much delicate subtle craft and beguiles the reader, Andrew smacks you on both sides of the head and BAM!! So much violence and sex and that is just the start. Where I might not be into that generally, Andrew crafts such convoluted plots that you are just drawn in with heavy intrigue instead of a slow dance.
Both wonderful, it leaves you wanting to take a long breath when you're done and then hope the next book comes along very soon.
Loved this one!

This novel is chiefly about the nefarious activities of a correctional facility in Mississippi that has dealings as far away as Colorado. There are interweaving activities of such as a runaway from California that are eventually tied into the activities.
I am relieved that this latest Reacher book is an improvement over the past few which were rapidly deteriorating. This was was complicated and had a satisfactory resolution.
A very disappointing installment in the Reacher series. It's written like someone trying to be Lee Child and not making a particularly good fist of it. Even on the first page it feels off (Reacher slopes into town and immediately meets a woman who he stays with). The story isn't compelling at all. There are multiple POVs which add little impact or depth. Never mind no plan B, there's not really a plan A.

Your standard Jack Reacher novel. Reacher comes across bad guys (this time in Colorado.) and inserts himself into the situation. He kicks butt. He takes names. The location changes, and the names are different, but the plot is much the same. I will say the editing did not catch Lee Child’s Britishisms. In a description of a door being kicked down, an American character would not see the results of the broken lock as splintering in the architrave. Nor would a garage full of tools in Mississippi be considered as containing an assortment of spanners. But other than that, it’s your standard Reacher novel. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth reading, if you liked the previous 20-odd Reacher novels.
