Great read, lots of complexity and great fantasy world. Wren is an intriguing character and somehow different. She makes profound discoveries about herself and those around her as she discovers her true self her and destiny.
Having read the Cruel Prince series first, this book seemed to draw too much from the characters of it. And I found myself not drawn into the story as much as I was the first ones. The main character however, was very interesting and her dynamics with the supporting cast was intriguing, the ending was what shocked me the most, leaving me on a cliffhanger that I've never seen done before. So I will be finding and reading the second book and I can only hope that it provides me with a more enticing experience.

holly black is like one of two ya authors i'm still obsessed with, even though i just turned 26 and feel like those ya days are way behind me. i really enjoyed this! i've read pretty much all of her faerie books, so it felt like coming back to a world i'm already really familiar with. i liked wren enough as a main character, although it wasn't until the very end that she stood out for me; and i wish oak had had a moment like that as well, but unfortunately, he was never quite there for me as a character - maybe i just like cardan slightly too much. also, this will be really bad for you if you're not a fan of quest books. for me, honestly, they're not my favorite. but since this is a secondary trilogy in a world i already knew, it was interesting getting to explore other parts and courts of it.

A perfect return to Black's Fae world. I love how dark she lets these books get while still remaining appropriate for the YA audience.
