i actually found the plot pretty engaging, even though i wasn’t 100% into it for few reasons. i wish the plot had more going on beyond just their journey to the court of teeth. overall, the book was good, but i only started getting truly excited in the last two chapters.

i didn’t feel much of a connection with the characters and i definitely didn’t get the same excitement i had with jude and cardan (not even close), whether as individual characters or as a ship.

wren is fine, her character is enjoyable, but nothing groundbreaking so far. as for oak…….. i don’t know, he doesn’t really resonate with me. i’m pretty neutral about him right now, though my opinion might change after reading the second book.

i‘m giving this 4 stars because I wasn‘t captivates by the story at first but i can‘t say it wasn‘t amazong nonetheless !
Oak, Tiernan and Bogdana but especially Wren are AMAZING characters. I love that they have changed so much since we last met them and that they are now fully grown people, each with their individual influences and trauma. I usually don‘t do well with sequels where the og characters aren‘t very present but with this plot i didn‘t spend a second thinking about what jude and cardan might be doing. Holly Black dis her job very well once again.
Also these plottwists and this cliffhanger… I need the second book now!!

:o <— my face the last 2 chapters of the book

2.5⭐️ I just really didn’t enjoy this that much - I found the pace a little dull and boring and I kept feeling really confused about the characters and what was happening! I had tried to read these straight after my FOTA re-read so I’d remember some more of the characters but unfortunately didn’t work out that way.

I did like Wren and Oak and their developing relationship and I still liked the ending - basically I just wanted to read this as I hear the sequel has a June and Cardan appearance.

I think just overall I prefer the original trilogy in terms of storyline and characters.
