Okay, I gotta admit that One Man Guy disappointed me. The summary was giving me a stroke because oh my god lgbtq romance with poc??? and yes, I did get lgbtq romance with poc, but the writing was awful. I don't think I've ever met anyone that talks like Alek. Not an adult, not a teenager, not someone who speaks English as a second language...He just sounds so unnatural.
I gave this book two stars because a) I adored the romance, I really did and b) Barakiva is good at writing fluffy family moments.
Also that scene where Ethan is blasting Rufus Wainwright and is about to take off Alek's pants but Mr. Khedarian opens the door, golf club in hand and is like 'Oh my God someone broke into the house!? Alek why is there a young man sitting between your legs and--oH MY GOD!" made me cry happy tears.

I really enjoyed this coming of age m/m romance it has been awhile since I have read any book like it. I really liked the characters especially Alek his family his best friend Becky and of course Ethan he was such a great character. I liked Alek's sense of humor as well as his understanding personality and his want to stand up for what he believes. I really liked the story it started out with a boy finding out he had to go to summer school to becoming a great romance and a well written story about family and how some things should change. So overall I loved this book and would read more books like it.
This was just a super cute, fun contemporary romance and I definitely recommend it!
The story is very low on the angst and I really liked the focus on family and Alek's Armenian customs. I will say that the romance is established pretty quickly and I would have loved to get to know Alek and Ethan a little better. I do think Alek and Ethan are really cute together, don't get me wrong, i just wanted a little bit more.
I'm also not the biggest fan of this frequently seen plotthread, where the main character is a good student and the love interest wants them to let loose a little and makes them ditch school. I know this is probably a minor thing to a lot of people, but it just bothered me. Ditching school is not cool, kids!
But to mention something positive, because yes, I did like this book, I loooved the humor in this! I listened to the audio book at work and had a hard time keeping a straight face throughout this book. I loved how witty Alek and Ethan were and they did have great chemistry.
I've got to say, the ending and solution to the issues Alek had to deal with was almost a little too easy, especially with how his family is presented at the beginning of the story, but I didn't mind too much. This is definitely better than having another queer book where a gay teen gets rejected by his family.

Definitely written for a younger set, but still entertaining. I am thankful that there are strong LGBTQ characters in YA books for today's youth. Representation is so important.

I really liked the book. It’s funny, heart-warming, and an easy read.
Overall I enjoyed this read! I just think we shouldn't glorify the "Oh he is such a bad guy I skipped school because of him" ... I think we should show younger people how you treat someone with respect without changing who they really are.
That said, I thought halfway through that the story was going to take an even worse turn, and it absolutely didn't. (for those who read it: the part where Ethan says something about throwing a party with his mom's money but that is never mentioned again and they don't do that).
I was going to give it 2 stars, but the ending made it all so much better and made me enjoy the entire book so much more, so I decided to give it 3 stars :)

It felt like reading the m/m version of 'Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel'
