I honestly think I went in to this with expectations too high, and I don’t know why. I didn’t love the first book, but I don’t generally enjoy reading about new love after a previous partner died. The second chance trope is only barely above the widow(er) one for me. But for some reason I thought this would be one of the exceptions. I guess I liked the blurb? Idk. Plus sometimes this author surprises me with stories I don’t expect to enjoy as much as I do. But I guess it can go both ways and I can be disappointed too. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I like Meghan’s writing style. It’s quick and easy to read with the perfect amount of descriptors and dialogue. I stay engaged, which is not always easy for me due to my issues with attention. And even though some of the humor is a wee bit immature, there is usually enough wit to sway me past the parts where I cringe.

So essentially how I feel about her books boils exclusively down to the story. And I hated this one. Or at the very least strongly disliked. To be fair, as I said before, I’m not a huge fan of second chance romances. I usually feel there is probably a good reason they broke up the first time and I’m going to need some really compelling evidence to justify that aforementioned second chance. This did not give me that. The H was an asshole to the h well past the halfway mark even though he should have been groveling from practically page 1. I could feel it from the beginning, but especially after reading the flashback breakup. It was extremely hard to forgive the way he breaks her and does not really make it up to her. I don’t love that he doesn’t try to seek her out during their 7 years of separation even though he “never stopped loving her” and regretted what he did immediately. Which, fine, maybe he thought she was doing great out in the world without him and he didn’t deserve her. And yet when she moves back to town he treats her terribly. He avoided her, was actively rude, and straight up humiliated her in public all through the first half of the book. The author even mentions how a good grovel is necessary and somehow completely missed the mark when writing his. Plus he goes straight from being a dick to aggressively hitting on her. Bit of whiplash there.

She also seemed like a freakin doormat with no personality. He still didn’t deserve her though. This was not a couple I rooted for and it made me really dislike all the side characters for pushing her to forgive him even when he was still being a douche. I’m all for a good meddling scenario, but this was not it.

And then it ended kind of abruptly and was not satisfying at all (again referring the lack of groveling). Also, what was with the random abusive relationship plot point just kind of thrown in? It added nothing to the story and was doing a disservice to those that have been through it. Either give it the room to breath or choose another method for character development that fits within the story.

This author can be real hit or miss for me. This was a miss. On to the next one.

This was a really cute small town second chance romance with all the best Port Snow characters! Also the mystery of the manor mistress was a fun subplot that caught me by surprise! It was a fun sweet read. The dual pov and dual timeline was done very well!

Goodness… I’ve never been this happy and mad at the same thing… I love the small town film company, the background mystery, the family feel and all…

But at the same time, so many little snippets of small yet annoying moments…

I don’t know… it’s great and cringy and fun and odd and entertaining… all in one

Rogan and Harper are that #couplegoals you want in your life. They were so cute and I loved how Rogan always put her first. I usually don’t like when the past is presented in the whole book, but somehow it was okei this time. I feel like I needed to understand their history and why they were broken up. I loved Rogan and how he always thinks before acting. It was really a good character. And about Harper, I liked that she was such a strong character. She really had a rough life experience but somehow she found herself again and the strength she needed to go forward. It was a really nice book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars and I’m looking forward for the next book.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The characters are so lovable, and of course it’s the best when you’ve been introduced to them in the prior book of the series. I can’t wait to start up the next one!
