This book was a bit complicated, with some high level of language needed (I think I looked up about 5 to 7 words in the first 50 pages.) but it did get easier as the book continued.
I enjoyed the book overall. I know some had trouble connecting with our main character, but I enjoyed the progression of getting to know him and see some of his growth.

I really tore through this book. Basically, its about a drug-dealer. He also likes to use his own product. He is street smart, served in the war, and had a fall from grace (got fired from the police force). This entire book is told from his perspective and the way Polansky writes is so enjoyable. His stark landscape and descriptions are spotted with words I had to look up. The writing suffered only in its straight as an arrow like unfolding of the plot and underwhelming twist.

Basically a hard boiled detective novel set in a fantasy realm of the hero were an ex-detective junkie drug seller. Loved it.

Sort of a gritty, fantasy noir investigation story. The plot was pretty well-paced and compelling, although rather heavy-handed with the foreshadowing. Wished the MC made better decisions of consequence and with more agency. Weird, off-putting descriptions sprinkled around, particularly about fatter people and women.

Well written with interesting characters, but the plot was little predictable and I couldn't quite place it in time. Props to the author for making the protagonist genuinely unpleasant.

Sorry, I just can't stand it.
This story didn't need it either, but it got thrown in at the end.

I really enjoy this author's writing style. I sought out more of his books after reading the novella The Builders, which I highly recommend. He has a way with words that especially shines in scenes with intense or witty banter, which was accentuated in this case by an engaging narrator.
Unfortunately, the mystery/plot itself fell a little flat for me, and the resolution felt rushed. I'll probably read the sequel, although the second audiobook has a different narrator, which is a bit of a bummer.
Overall I'd give it a 3.5, rounding up because it has an addictive quality that makes up for a somewhat thin story.

Low Town jsem poslouchal jako audioknihu z Audible. Odehrává se v příjemném prostředí chudinských čtvrtí plných zoufalství. Trochu zaráží důvěra hlavního hrdiny (skoro až hloupost) kdy nesmyslně věří jedněm osobám a nesmyslně podezřívá další I když je celkově kniha zajímavá bohužel se nevyrovná sérii Trnového prince od Marka Lawrence, kde jde špína doopravdy až do hloubky.

I have listen Low Town as a audiobook. Story is set in interesting environment of fantasy slums full of desperation. I have problem only with trust (almost stupidity) of main character, who without any explanation trust villains and suspect the innocents. Even though environment is very interesting, this has been much better by Mark Lawrence in Prince of thorns.

Low Town is fantasy noir with a strong main character that is a good guy, but also a drug dealer. He moves in the gritty world of drugs, politics, corrupt cops, and dark magics. Strong world building. Highly recommended.
