When I started reading The Graces, I braced myself after the experience of the rather superficial Sortilege Falls since both involve popular teens who pretty much run the school–but I guess that’s what happens in high school anyway. Fortunately The Graces is something else altogether.
The new girl in school who renames herself “River” has a crush on Fenrin, the beautiful male Grace, but quickly becomes enamored with all of the Grace family. The Grace family is both beloved and hated in the village. River and the youngest Grace, Summer, become friends. Summer shares with River possibility that the family is cursed. The curse affects members of the family who become involved with non-magicals and how one or the other ends up mad. Because River is obsessed with Fenrin, she wants to help the entire family by participating in a spell that might end the curse.

This book feels very stalker-ish. a whole village that is obsessed with one family? can you spell creepy?
I'm curious about the ending. But I can't bring myself to finish it.. i have to though. I hate unfinished stories:/

That was a whirl wind. Slow in some parts but the end was a twist. Reminds me of The Craft.

what.
That's really all I have to say for now. I can't even function. Brilliance. Complete and utter brilliance. Gimme some time to actually wrap up my thoughts.

I was intrigued by and caught up in the story until we came to Part 2. Then it felt odd, and at times predictable. But there were moments in Part 1 that I thought explained what was going on - and I was correct in that thinking. It’s a bummer these friendships went to shit. But the “twist at the end” wasn’t that profound to me. But then again this is for a younger audience. It kind of reminds me of that book The Merciless but not done as crazy.
I really enjoyed the first part of the book. I love the way the author describes feelings and how the Grace family dresses and acts. I just wasn’t that impressed with the story.
I really need to find a series that I can lose myself in and become obsessed with. I’m on a streak of blah blah and terribleness. 😕

Started and never finished. Setting (location) is unclear/undefined, which is problematic in that the characters speak in a jarring mix of "Englishes" (are they English? Are they American? Is it some weird hybrid?) - and this is reflected in the narration/exposition as well - which became a major distraction for me. Most damning, for a book about witches, the writing lacks a certain magic.
I am finding this book difficult to review as, on the one hand, I flew through it but I didn't really enjoy it. I didn't like any of the characters, the main character is unreliable and I didn't quite understand her obsession with The Graces. Going into this book I thought it was going to be about witchcraft and whilst this is hinted at it wasn't what I was expecting. I was hoping that it would be similar to The Secret Circle series which I really enjoyed. There is very little magic in this book and I am not sure if the magic was actually real or just imagined to be real by River.
A lot of reviews draw comparisons between The Graces and The Cullens from Twilight and I 100% can see why. However, I can't understand the appeal of The Graces as they also felt quite unlikeable. I think the narration of the audiobook did not help this. There was also a mystery element to this book but this wasn't particuarly mysterious and the reveal wasn't very shocking.
Overall this book was ok. It was a really quick read and there were parts that I did enjoy. However, there was something missing from this book for me so I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I don't plan on continuing on with the series as although it ends on a sort of cliffhanger I am not invested enough in the characters to continue with the story.
