I started this book back in 2017 and ended up DNFing it because it no longer interested me and didn't live up to the hype of the first book. I was irritated by the cutters and other parts of the story which I don't want to talk about because of spoilers.
I personally felt like the story should have been told in 1st person, as I would sometimes forget that it was supposed to be in 3rd and then I'd get jarred back into that. That is completely my own problem and probably won't be an issue for other readers.
I ended up giving this book another shot because my friend is reading the series now and wanted me to try again so she could talk to me.
In the end, I am glad that I gave it another shot because it did get more interesting and entertaining. After all these years I'm just happy to say that I was able to finish it.

Finally finished with book 3 of the Uglies series. Unfortunately for me, they keep getting worse as we go.
Shay was awful for most of the book. What happened to Zane made me mad. And Tally. She was even more annoying worried about being ‘special’. I’ll have to think on this one. I really don’t know if I’ll make it to Extras.

This book in the series proves that there was a good idea at the root of its core that was rushed through far too unintelligibly. This whole series could’ve been just one very large, well written, fleshed out universe. That or I have an adult brain over-analyzing YA work. Regardless, this series punishes the only characters in the story that have personality and ambition.
