Alright. So. This book. Completely nuts. Crazy. Crazy good. But I feel like I can't give it a honest rating because a co-worker of mine spoiled the whole book for me. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the book, but it just didn't have that gasp-worthy, WTF moments that I had been promised. Now if I had not known what would have happened, obviously I would have liked it more.
There was just one part of the book that bothered me: the end. I find that is a common problem with really good books and movies. To me, I was still expecting a somewhat more dramatic ending than just the ending that was published. Overall, I quite enjoyed it. I loved how it was written, and will probably read more from Gillian Flynn! :)

Snowballed, got better and better as it went on. A fascinating look at heteronormative gender politics but also what living inside of a set of definitions/expectations can do to you in psychologically extreme cases. Better than I thought it was going to be after reading Sharp Objects and the first quarter of this book.

I will say for as much as Nick and Amy describe "knowing" or "not knowing" each other, I was a little frustrated that neither of them took note that they are the same person, or at least that they have more in common with each other than they think. Or maybe I'm just picking up on that as Flynn intended, to make some larger point about how marriages look from within and without, or maybe about self-loathing, or maybe commentary on what it means to be fully recognized by yourself and others, or maybe or maybe or maybe.
