This did not age well. South Africa (and South Africans) are described as barbaric and primitive… it was really disappointing

This is the first Christie book I read - or rather listened to. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I had read it instead, as I often forgot names and mixed them up as I listened - something you don’t want to do in a mystery.
Anne was a really spunky and fun main character! Sir Eustace Peddler and her were my favourites. They were both very entertaining.
The plot kept me on my toes, and I definitely guessed wrong a few times. There were a few heroes I hated, even to the end, and villains I liked.

My second Agatha Christie, which I chose specifically because it sounded quite different from The Mysterious Affair at Styles (which indeed it was). I started off very much enjoying the spunky heroin and her adventures, and was impressed by how progressive Anne was for being written 100 years ago. But I admit I must have tuned out for a bit because at a certain point I couldn’t remember who anybody was or how she had figured out key points in the mystery. Once the romance plot kicked in, I started to become annoyed with Anne and the ultimate solution to the mystery didn’t feel very satisfying. The two audiobook narrators were very good, and I particularly enjoyed the character of Eustace Pedler because of it.
