I knew this book was considered radical and harsh for its time, and I looked forward to adding it to my store of American literature. But I was so unprepared for the loving forgiveness and messages of redemption this book so well captures. It's been a long time since a book surprised and moved me like this.

I love this book. I loved the experience of reading it. I loved the glimpse into the lives of these characters. A truly beautiful read.

LIFE CHANGING BOOK. oh my god. oh my god. I don't think I will ever create a literary masterpiece as great as Alice Walker's The Color Purple. I definitely do warn that it is a very heavy book that tackles some difficult subjects if that's something that icks you out but it's seriously worth trudging through. like. my god

Another difficult book to read. I completely understand why some communities would want to ban it -- it's brutal. But it is no more brutal than the society it reflects, and therefore ought never to be banned. (Banning books is bad mmmkay?)
