I still struggle with this. Older and now that I am more in touch with myself and as a woman, I get what she was trying to do a lot more and I see the beauty of it, but again, still struggle with the poetry part so I have upped the rating on my end.

This book had a few standout poems for me. I had no qualms with this collection but I struggled to connect with a majority of it. I only think I was not in the right place in my life to need the poems written. That being said, I can appreciate the vulnerability behind the words and understand how meaningful this collection would be if I were in a different place/mindset.

I don’t have much of an opinion. I’d thought this would be poetry and the topics it covered would work well for it. But this is not poetry. I don’t know exactly what this is . It wasn’t bad , it just wasn’t good.

Ah man, Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur is just so damn pretentious. This is basic tumblr poetry slapped on paper and packaged up real pretty. Kaur has some potential with her simple language and metaphors, but overall this collection is seriously lacking.

The themes she covers - love, breakups, trauma, healing, being a woman - are relatable, sure. But Kaur's treatment of them is cliche as hell and surface level. There's no depth or originality here. She's aiming for this vulnerable, raw vibe but it just comes off as try-hard and pompous.

I get why this resonates with her young, female audience. It's easily digestible nuggets made to give a little boost for a second. But for anyone looking for real poetic substance and craft, Milk and Honey is emotionally shallow and unsatisfying.

Kaur has a clever, minimalist style and she's marketed herself well as an instapoet. But let's be real - this isn’t elevated poetry by any means. She's got the popularity thing down but still needs to develop her artistry and insight before earning real critical praise.

Milk and Honey shows Kaur's potential as a relatable viral poet. But she needs to get over herself and gain some humility. Hopefully her next work displays more depth and skill, else she's destined to just be a pretentious millennial meme-poet.
