I was pleasantly surprised by this. I honestly thought I wasn’t going to like anything regarding this book since I am not a science fiction fan at all, but I had fun.

I'm not normally a sci-fi reader, so I was skeptical picking this one up, but I enjoyed it. It's an easy, entertaining read.

I went into this with pretty low expectations because of how much I disliked the lorien legacies series. It did better than I thought it would, but it’s still not great.
I thought the premise was interesting, the twist with Sydney’s dad was really well done, and some characters were really cool. I thought Batzian was underutilized, cause he had some great potential. Aela and the moldy guy were cool, and Sydney’s mom was well done. Zara was kind of cliche and Sydney was without a doubt the most boring character in the book. Also, the pacing was way off. I like this book enough to reread it sometime, but not enough to buy the sequel.

So this book was good, for the most part. I am probably biased because I really like this author. The story line and characters were mainly great. Some of the ways they portrayed human kind was a little annoying to me, but it was explained away. I liked the pacing, except at the end when it felt like it went a little too fast.
