Synopsis: Some secrets are worth dying for.

For months, Doctor Rowan Dupont has been staring death in the face. It followed her back to her hometown of Winchester, Tennessee, ten months ago, cloaking the walls of her family’s Victorian funeral home like a shroud. In investigating the mysterious deaths of her loved ones, Rowan has unearthed enough family secrets to bury everything she’d previously thought true. But each shocking discovery has only led to more bodies and more questions; the rabbit hole is deeper than she ever imagined.

Despite settling in to a comfortable life with Police Chief Billy Brannigan, Rowan knows dangerous serial killer Julian Addington is still out there. She can’t let her guard down now. Not when she’s this close to ending his torment once and for all. But with a storm brewing on the horizon, she’ll get only one shot before the impending darkness takes hold, threatening to wipe away every truth she’s uncovered—and everything she holds dear.

Review: I had to DNF this book. It was very hard to keep everything straight with it being a third book and I’d rather wait to read the first two before I jump in. This isn’t a DNF because the book is bad, it’s a DNF for now because I need to make a book review for this and I don’t want to DNF a book with amazing writing and characters because I can’t understand what’s going on.

Verdict: Read book 1 and 2 before this!

The Darkness We Hide by Debra Webb
The Undertaker’s Daughter #3

In the finale of this trilogy we finally have the answers that Dr. Rowan Dupont has been looking for. - and that I have been waiting for. By the end of this book many secrets had been revealed and I felt the conclusion had definitely been reached with this series even though it seems there is another series by this author in the same setting. It was a bit slow in the beginning, there was a bit of repetition in Rowan’s thinking at times and it took awhile to get into the story but about midway the pace began to pick up speed and so did my interest.

What I liked:
* The twists and turns
* That I didn’t always know what would happen next
* The twisted thinking of more than one character
* Not necessarily knowing who was good and who was evil
* The look into the life of an undertaker
* Billy – seemed to be a truly good man and he definitely loved Rowan
* Rowan – mostly – though sometimes she did some silly things that didn’t seem very wise related to her safety
* Charlotte – a good friend to Rowan
* The baddies did get there comeuppance

What I did not like:
* The twisted evil characters that were in this book/series – they were warped beyond belief
* Realizing once again that evil is real and that real people are evil – sometimes fiction is just the tip of the iceberg.
* Wondering if there might have been more information in the first book that would have explained some of my lingering questions...

Did I enjoy this book? I think so
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins – Harlequin - Mira for the ARC – This is my honest review.

OMG...the suspense in this book is totally on another level, it's like there's a serial killer in every corner....literally. I keep expecting bad things happen on the next page, I was scared to turn the page but too curious to know what will happen so I keep turning the page, my heart racing the whole time and thank God there's sweetness here and there that break all those crazy tensions, This book has a great mystery, great suspense, great characters the kind that make me root and pray for happy ending for them, so yeah this is the great book for suspense lovers out there and totally recommended and seriously...you really need to read this.

Even though I didn't read the first two books in "The Undertaker's Daughter" series, the author gave good enough information to help you get caught up with what's going on.

Rowan Dupont knows a thing or two about death. She's been surrounded by it all her life. Her father was The Undertaker for their family's mortuary business. So being around dead bodies doesn't faze her. While she was a Police Officer, her father got killed by a former associate of her mother's named Julian Addington. She took over her father and became the town's Undertaker now so she's on a mission to find her father's killer and bring him to justice once and for all in the third and what I assume is the final of this trilogy. What's even more unsettling about all this is that this isn't Julian's first murder either.
When people close to Rowan start dropping like flies she knows that Julian is near again, and he will strike again not stopping until he gets to finally reveal a deep dark secret to Rowan. One that will change the course of things.

I really enjoyed this book considering that I didn't read the first two installments in the series. However, after reading this one I'm absolutely hooked, especially because it's a serial killer novel; I'm obsessed with serial killers (not in a bad way:0). The book kept me on the edge of my seat and I enjoyed the author's writing. Let's see if we can get that serial killer bookclub huh? Huge thanks to NetGalley and Mira books for a copy of this book in a exchange for an honest review.

Doctor Rowan Dupont grew up in a funeral home as an undertaker's daughter. Rowan did not follow in her father's footsteps, however. Instead, she became a profiler with the Nashville Police Department. After the murder of her father, however, she returned home to Winchester, Tennessee, and has been serving as the town's undertaker. In addition to that, Rowan has found love with police chief Billy Brannigan.

Unfortunately for Rowan, despite combined effort, serial killer Julian Addington remains at large. When Julian resurfaces, his efforts to kill Rowan are intensified. Will Rowan and those she loves be able to finally locate Julian before any more brutal murders take place? And, will the secrets Rowan has been uncovering be more than she can handle?

I have read the previous two books in this trilogy, The Secrets We Bury and The Lies We Tell and have been truly captivated. I loved the thread involving the serial killer, especially how he was revealed to Rowan and how he escaped capture and how it all tied together in this last book. Debra Webb is an excellent author and I have enjoyed all of her books that I have had the opportunity to read.

Many thanks to MIRA and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This is my first Debra Webb book, so I can only give the perspective of a new reader.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of its action, but was acutely aware that this is a book in a series. Webb does an admirable job of filling in the pertinent pieces of information, but the character connection was missing. You could tell there were other books and readers of the series would have a much deeper emotional connection to the stories especially the resolution.

That's not to say I didn't really like the characters. I really loved Dr. Rowan Dupont and her boyfriend Sheriff Billy. I didn't even get the backstory that decelops their relationship, and I found myself rooting for them as a couple. So much so, that I am going to go back and read the first 3 books of the series just so that I can fully understand book 4.

So, basically, I would definitely recommend this book to mystery lovers, but I would suggest starting with book 1 as I plan to do. Thanks Netgalley for the copy.

I am a huge fan of The Undertaker's Daughter series and Dr. Rowan Dupont.

The Darkness We Hide is another solid effort from Debra Webb. I don't think it was my favourite of the series, but definitely well written with a satisfying ending.

Dr. Julian Addington has reappeared in Rowan & Billy's lives after a few months of laying low. Rowan is desperate to find him and get answers about her mother's past. Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for....can she handle the truth? Will Julian be brought to justice before more people end up dead?

Pick up #TheDarknessWeHide by @DebraWebbAuthor to find out! Thank you to #Netgalley and #HarlequinBooks for an advanced reader's copy.

I have been anxiously awaiting this final book in the Undertakers Daughter series. Debra Webb did not disappoint in providing a captivating thriller following Rowan Dupont as she fends off a serial killer targeting her in a very personal way. The story, ripe with twist and turns showcases the crazy mind of Julian Addington. As the bodies pile up, Rowan steps away from her role as the undertaker of Winchester, Tennessee, and works with her boyfriend and Sherriff Billy, to try to find and stop Julian from killing more people in his attempt to get to Rowan.

It's a very cat and mouse game that Julian plays, and it was a crazy ride to discover all the connections he has to Rowan. There's a great cast of characters supporting Rowans fight. We are entirely in her head as assumptions are formed and debunked or proven. The threat Julian imposes pushes Rowan to contemplate what she really wants for her future, and she seems to understand now that keeping secrets only jeopardizes those that she loves. Add in some subterfuge coming out of the FBI investigation, trying to understand what motivates Julian only proves to be convoluted. As the truth slowly unfolds, Rowan comes to terms with new truths about her family.

I'm happy to say that Debra Webb delivered a fantastic conclusion to the series. I'm looking forward to exploring more books from this author. 4.5 Stars and recommendation.
