These are really great books. John Rain is an assassin who works on and off with the CIA and its foreign counterparts. He's been doing this a while, and he's thinking about starting to do something different, largely due to a change in his personal circumstances (no spoilers!). Most of the time his jobs are related to what his "official" shot-callers want him to do, but this time it's more personal. With his wisecracking steady partner Dox and his "see you when I see you" girlfriend Delilah, he heads to Tokyo on a personal mission. These books keep getting better. The dialogue, the fight scenes, the characters - they're all suspenseful and enjoyable. I laughed, I cried, I tensed, I relaxed. Signs of a great story.
Delilah's New York visit made no sense in terms of the character Eisler had already drawn of her. I agree with other commenters that the author seems to struggle with character development, especially that of female characters.
I liked this the least of the books I've read so far in the series, most of which I rated five stars. This one, three stars.

The Rain books keep the action coming. The only thing I could fault is the string of the most attractive women he always seems to pick up. First Midori, then Naomi and then Delilah all find his charms irresistible. Now one helps him get back another! That's the only taint so far otherwise great reading!
Good, solid pulp and another reliable entry in the John Rain series. Great if you want a page turner to escape in for a while.

Things are really getting complicated. Our "hero" the assassin has to manage different dangerous organizations with deadly characters, his ex-lover and her son (his?), work with others to survive (hard for this long-time loner), and overall dangerous situations.
This books just keeps moving with a few spots of reflections so the reader and John can catch our breath.
His new friend (ex-Marine, still a sniper) Dox is there to support. Again, his humor one second and intense focus the next when in sniper mood is enjoyable. The continued development of John and Dox is really enjoyable, not sappy or awkward. Their relationship, while unexpected, works its way through some extraordnary situations that temp people to turn on each others. Especially in their line of work.
