An absolutely wonderful book to read aloud with my boys. It had adventure and charm which made my boys run upstairs for "Tumtum and Nutmeg time!" each night. They are not ready for the heft of the Harry Potter series but this was perfect. I was also thrilled with the beauty and richness of the vocabulary. My boys never realized that when we talked about the words and what we read, they were learning. Perfect!

We read this aloud with our 2 year old and almost 5 year old and we all loved it! Tumtum and Nutmeg are delightful characters and their adventures around Rose Cottage are fun to read. This will definitely be read again in our house. A new favorite!

The kids loved this one. It's 3 different books in one and we read it very quickly. The anticipation kills them, but there is always a happy ever after. I love the sweet old fashioned English setting (even if I don't love the somewhat sexist roles given to Mrs. And Mr. Nutmouse). My favorite part of these stories were the troup of brave ballerinas that saved the day! Definitely recommend.

7/10. Tumtum and Nutmeg was published in 2009 but has a very classic feel about it. I felt that it got off to a slow start but my two girls made no complaints. Once it got on it's way (about the 4th chapter) it was very endearing, loads of fun and had my girls busting up laughing. All of us enjoyed reading about the antics of General Marchmouse above anyone else in the book. I liked Tumtum and Nutmeg's admirable qualities but they would have been rather dull without the children or the General to keep them in scrapes.

This was 3 stories in one book (500 pages) and I think I would have enjoyed them better separately. I may still have read them to my girls all at once but cramming them into one book made for what felt like a really long read. Once again, this was all me, the girls never complained about it being too long. Although I enjoyed this, I'm ready for new characters and plot lines.

The story about general marchmous joining the circus is the weakest of the series so far. I am saving the Christmas story for closer to the holidays. This series continues to be a delight for my kids and I strongly recommend as a read aloud for kids 5-10.

My kids and I loved this book! "Tumtum, Nutmeg, and General Marchmouse are household names in our house. My kids make sure I don't forget to read it to them each morning, and I've found them pretending and playing with characters and scenes in the stories. I'm a huge fan of British literature, and it's been sweet to share little British phrases and things with my kids. You know a book is good when the kids keep begging "Please, just one more chapter!"
