It’s rare to find a sapphic manga about two teen girls in love that doesn’t involve fetishization. This story has some powerful imagery, especially regarding Chayama in the first half of the story when she was dealing with bullying and seeing Mizuro as her only “light”, there was this one panel where she said “don’t take my light away” that really made me feel for her. But overall the story was paneled in a way that is nonsensical, Chayama and Mizuro’s relationship, albeit sweet, was underdeveloped and rushed. Also the whole conflict regarding the town and the two girl’s rival families and their interests isn’t flashed out so well. The bully/antagonist character was meant to be sympathetic I think but just came across as a sociopath who changed their mind super quick in the end?? Like if not for Chayama and how uncomfortably relatable she reminds me of my personality when I was closeted queer and bullied in middle school, I think I would have dnfed this even tho it’s such a rare sapphic manga.

This one is a good read. It's about two girls from two families and those families hate each other but the two girls fall in love with each other and try to do anything they can to stay together.
I liked their relationship but there's one part that I didn't like at all (recording sounds when 'doing it' without the consent of the other person is a big red flag) but besides that, I loved them together.
I do wish the bullying plot was resolved better? The ending was kind off confusing.
Overall still a nice book. I enjoyed reading it.

Not entirely sure what happened towards the end, but still a compelling story. The ending felt like it was fizzling out a little, but that's common with yuri stories like this. There's never a future for lesbian couples in school etc etc, especially not with Japan's view on us. At least their relationship was healthy?

I'm so sad to have to give this a 2 stars but it just felt so unsatisfying to me.
The relationship did not feel fleshed out at all and so, I couldn't get myself to feel anything for them. I love the idea of two girls finding solace in each other through abuse and the pains on growing up. But for mizuno, I never understood what she needed chayama for. Chayama finds peace in being with her due to the abuse she suffers but mizuno is just annoying. They don't even seem to have any deep feeling for each other. Couldn't get myself to believe in they're love at all.
But, I do like everything outside the romance. The themes portrayed about bullying, the family troubles, the neglectful parents. How all of these were portrayed were very good and felt realistic. Those ate the scenes that really hit me. The love story was just so underdeveloped. It had so much potential to be so emotional and rich but it wasn't.

Mizuno and Chayama is my first Yuri Manga I've read. I definitely enjoyed reading even though at times I gasped in heart ache for the one of the main characters.
This books contains triggers for those who have a hard time reading about heavy physical abuse, sexual a sault and heavy themes of surviving school, surviving bullies, surviving abusive and emotionally absent parents.
With all that negativity there's so much space invested in a love between two students, and their need for each other during these hard times. They find comfort in knowing that one day they could be together without the need to hide from their parents.
Now, I didn't get the impression that they were hiding because they are both girls but because both Mizuno and Chayamas family are rivals. They didn't want the families or anyone to know because that would cause more tension between both families and the public.
Highly recommend
