This was interesting, but I felt like it was lacking something. Even though this omnibus edition is pretty hefty, I feel like the story needed to be longer and go further into exploring character backstory - especially the antagonist's - and how Mizuno and Chayama's feelings developed for each other. I just didn't feel much emotional connection to the story. For the most part I did really enjoy the art and the style, and there were some good scenery panels + nice character design, but a lot of the action panels were tough to follow. I think that the art needed to be a little cleaner in the more movement-heavy segments to make the sequence of events more clear.

This was a cute read. Mizuno and Chayama are two kids you want to have a happy ending. And they sort of do get their happy ending. Kind of... The future for them is implied to be hopeful which is what matters. But the navigation of young queer love amongst young women while in high school was something that was compelling in this story. And it felt a little bit like a Romeo and Juliet situation as well. Given that they come from well regarded/positioned families in a small town that don't like one another which further complicates their relationship with one another. But between Mizuno's brash and assertive personality and Chayama's coy shy side and all her chibi reactions to Mizuno's outbursts they compliment each other in a great way. They complete each other. And the tender moments between the two of them are breathtaking and heart warming. There is one panel in particular where Mizuno kisses Chayama on the nose and it lives in my mind rent free every day. The only gripe I have would have to be the conflict or the antagonist of the story. The antagonist seems to go from 0 to 100 in the "evil" deeds that she is willing to do and the connective tissues between her motives in how they relate to the main characters is murky at most times. And by the end the antagonist doesn't really have any consequences for her "evil doings." Though they are high school aged so maybe the stakes don't need to be that dire? Either way, a cute sapphic romance with a hopeful ending. A good thumb up.
