Another fun novel from Elinor Lipman! One of her older ones, The Inn at Lake Devine, is one of my all-time favorites to reread. Her characters are usually snippy, witty and slightly off-beat. In a moment of indiscretion, Jane, a lawyer, finds herself under house arrest for indecent exposure. As her sentence slowly moves on, a doorman suggests that another person in the building is under house arrest. His name is Perry, and after googling his crime, Jane decides to take him a plate of brownies. The rest is goofy, but fun, history.

Listening to an Elinor Lipman novel is like having your really fun, witty friend tell you all about her slightly-more-interesting-than-your life. I really enjoyed the quotidian parts of the novel but was less enthusiastic about it when it wandered off into a maybe murder mystery and green card marriage subplot.
