This book had100 random storylines that did not seem to make sense to the plot at all.
Verrry light reading. If you haven't read Elinor Lipman's books before, don't start with this one; her others are excellent and totally enjoyable. This one was just okay - her writing is fun as usual, but the plot was a little far fetched at times.
I really enjoyed this. The premise is fun and the dialogue amusing. Two singles looking for love but under house arrest—clearly a match made in heaven.
A book with an amusing premise and plot, but the main character fell flat for me. I never warmed to her, especially since the cast of supporting characters seemed to have much more interesting storylines and were more sympathetic.
3.5 stars. A sweet story, but I felt like they just just let plot points drop instead of developing them, which was frustrating.
Great fun - a quick read with interesting characters, edging on absurd.
Book # 27 of 2023: Ms. Demeanor by Elinor Lipman. This book was witty, fun and not at all what I was expecting. With the M.C. on house arrest, I thought this would be a weird parallel to COVID lockdown and I could not have been more wrong (and happy to be). The story took a few turns I was not expecting, but appreciated nonetheless. If you want a bit of mystery, crime drama, romance, family (twins!), food (recipes from the 1800s), and NYC real estate this is the book for you.

I think I would lose my mind if I was on house arrest. I am a homebody but a six month confinement at home would destroy me. There was a lot going on in this and every thread was not tied up by the end for my taste. Was she cooking? Was she blogging? Was she going back to law? It was a bit much. I loved Jane’s personality and how easily she was able to reach out to her neighbors and form friendships. The ending was cute but a little too perfect for my taste.
