I loved this. It's not the type of novel that I usually read but I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. It's a very quiet story about the life of one Indiana woman from her childhood up until the day she dies. The writing in this is beautiful and the metaphors really captivating. I would encourage anybody wanting to read this to read it at night before you go to bed because it is relaxing in a way I have never known a book to be.
Whew. Beautiful, quiet story about the mundane lives most of us live that never make it to the page. Weirdly, I saw myself in Zorrie a little much, and I’ll be thinking about her for a long time to come.
A quiet, beautiful book. I think quiet novels are some of my favorites.
I can't stop thinking about Ethan Frome... Zorrie and Zeena, Opal and Mattie Silver, grief, longing, feeling stuck. This one really lodged itself in my brain.
This was beautiful! Such precise writing. If you've read Kent Haruf, or Stoner by John Williams, this book reminds me much of that. Really deliberate, thoughtful sentences, and the story isn't really about much, but it's about the whole experience of being alive, and being alone. I only wish there was a little more of Zorrie's early life here. You will underline lots and lots of the sentences here.

Books like this are why I love to read. Who would have known that I was looking for a story with no plot twists and turns, no dramatic violence, no literary devices? What a lovely, melancholy, achingly beautiful story. Hunt's writing reminds me of Kent Haruf (high praise) and Ishiguro in some of his quieter books (Remains of the Day).
