This book captures Indiana from farmland to the State Fair and even the short passage about the Indiana Dunes.
Well, Zorrie, it's not you, it's me. Nicely written though.

Some sentences in this book were so lovely I read them several times. But overall the book was just a little slow-paced for me.
I'm stunned that a book this short could be this devastating. "Zorrie" carries the reader through most of a woman's long life in Indiana. Zorrie retains some buoyancy, even as life's storms seem to hit her with more strength than most. Orphaned at an early age, Zorrie is for a time one of the "Radium Girls" who paint watch faces so they'll glow in the dark. But most of her years are spent on a farm, where she cultivates connections with those around her even when it's far from easy to do so. Laird Hunt's writing is gorgeous but by no means flashy. I think the book will appeal to readers of "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. Zorrie's nowhere near as prickly as Olive, but she's similarly determined to find a way forward where a lesser woman might give up.
