A quiet character study of Zorrie, a woman from Indiana as she moves through life. The prose is beautiful, pulling you into a daze. I did find the frequent run on sentences a bit gratuitous but got used to the style as the book went on. This book was nothing what I expected yet somehow has left a feeling or imprint that is hard to describe. This book characterized the what if’s and the things that somehow never materialize over a lifetime, leaving a lasting impression for me.

This gem of a book surprised me.  Quietly beautiful.  There are things in Zorrie's life that should make this more of a dramatic story (I was waiting for her earlier life work to take a toll later on; cryptic but I don't want to give anything away).  The more I think about it, a lot happened, but the writing is so even-keeled and calm, reflecting who Zorrie is.  Zorrie's life is mostly farm life in the midwest.  What this book taught me and has me thinking about again and again is that even if you don't experience or do big things in life, even if all you really do is take care of the pigs and bring your neighbor dinner, your life is still beautiful.
