Through his characters, he has navigated across the key events of yesteryear. Historical fiction perhaps is a unique genre where the author has to perform extensive research too. I’d started this book visualizing the lush greenery of Burma. What I did not expect was the emotional grip this book had on me!
I loved that I experienced a century of various characters life stories, in three different countries.
Ghosh really strikes imagery from the war into your heart in such graphic detail - it really got me feeling for each family, each child, and each soldier, that has to undergo so much misery and pain during a war just for the satisfaction of some rich elite eating their hearts out.
I didn’t think I’d love this book as much as I did, but here we are! Beautifully written
