Essentially, a Burmese family saga spanning generations and three countries. I couldn't get into this and found it something of a plod, but it has received good reviews otherwise.

A beautiful story about Indians living in India and around the Indian Ocean from c.1880 to 1947. It's a social history masquerading as a novel.

Reading this book is like watching someone play a sims story, with all the little sidelines and stories within. Also loved the elements of love and war, and the effect is had on the characters in the book!

Everything is perfect in this book.

Magnificent novel. Long, intricate, historical, gripping and, eventually, very sad.

I’ll read this book over and over again until I die

This was a really good book and a wonderful fictional story that also gives a historical account of the changing state of Burma. The characters were well developed. Deducting a star just because took me a long time to finish. I tended to lose interest when the focal characters would change, but once I refocused myself, I grew attached to the new characters as well.
